The red-bellied woodpecker is one of my favorite birds, which makes this photo doubly pleasing to me. Seeing a RBW is not uncommon in our neighborhood park where there are lots of old trees and a bog nearby; however, until today I had never seen two of them sitting on the same tree stump. I am guessing that the one in the foreground is a female because it has a grey cap, but I am not certain. At any rate, this was a red-bellied day! Here are a few other birds from today’s walk. Superb blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?

I would suggest starting with something free. Don’t invest a lot of money until you have tested the waters and discovered that you definitely enjoy blogging. Word Press has excellent templates that are free and fairly easy to manage. Start small, get your feet wet, and if you like it, then dive on in! Thanks for commenting on my red-bellied blog post.

I really think they are pretty too, in fact we have several coming to our feeders to get the suet paddies they just love them to death, I never get tired of them or the carolina wrens and nuthatches among others. really nice photos you got there,

They don’t come to our feeders, but I see them along the trail in the park pretty regularly. I have been keeping an eye out for the carolina wrens, but so far I’ve had no luck in that department.

thanks for your comments, I guess my suet is just to tempting a treat to pass up, especially since I have such a large yard and lots of woods around me I guess it helps them feel comfortable enough to get close. sure are chatty little guys too.

Nicely seen Skip, the more Red-bellied Woodpeckers the better I say… Here in the north of NJ we had a similar experience with Northern Flickers. We’d never seen two together, but we watched a pair take part in a bizarre head-bobbing dance which we assume was a courtship. It was great to see…
