Daffy-nitions: disheveled

Disheveled: untidy, disordered

“What a bad hair day it’s been. I look awfully disheveled, and I’m beginning to feel desperate.  I’ve combed and combed, and it just won’t cooperate! Maybe I need a styling.”

I can certainly relate to what this cardinal must have been feeling. As the expression says, “Been there; Done that!” What about you? Have you been there too?

Daffy-nition: ennui

Ennui-A feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction brought on by a lack of occupation or excitement.

Some days are like that! I know that I can identify with the feeling…at least on occasion, but did you know that sea gulls could experience ennui? Apparently this gull, perched on a pylon on the East 9th Street pier,* knows what I’m talking about.

*The 9th Street pier is less than a block from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio. Most people visiting the area don’t experience ennui, but gulls apparently aren’t excited by the history of rock and roll!

For the Record
  • Exercise: Not a lot of exercise today. I only walked 3428 steps, approximately 1.6 miles.
  • Weather: A mixed bag! The sun shone most of the day, but the morning temperature was only 43 degrees. It definitely felt more like winter than spring. However, by evening it had soared to an almost balmy 55 degrees. (Occasionally I exaggerate.)
  • Yesterday I was complaining moaning about how tired I am of “grey and gloomy.” But really, is sunny and warm too much to expect? 😉

That’s all for right now. See you soon.

Daffy-nitions: Lugubrious

2014_10_28_Chagrin River Park_011

Have you ever heard anyone say, “That face should be in the dictionary next to the word _________?” Well occasionally, on my walks in the park, I encounter animals that cry out for their very own dictionary daffy-nition. Today I’m nominating Gilligan. During mud season, Gigs wears a snood to keep those fantastic ears from dragging in the mud, but with or without the snood, he is the perfect picture of the word lugubrious, and also the ideal model for today’s blog post. To see Gigs wearing his snood, click here.

Lugubrious: looking or sounding sad and dismal

For the record
  • Today’s weather: Completely overcast, grey, and gloomy.
  • Have I mentioned how tired I am of grey and gloomy? 😦
  • Exercise: None! I was totally uninspired for a photo walk in the park!

That’s all for today. Thanks for stopping by.
